New West Bragg Trails
Anyone got info on new West Bragg Creek trails - whats finished, etc. Here's the old build plan map:
(also some info on the new berms going in on Ridgeback - SWEET!!)
We're not supposed to ride new trails until there complete but from what I've heard 3iii is almost complete (making much better access to Station Flats area trails from West Bragg).
Also, try and get out and help these guys if you can. They are doing a great job extending and maintaining our network of enjoyment!

Potlicker Lore: Wicknasty and Sneddon help out the Potlickers
The coolest thing happened to Potlicker 2 on the grueling stage 3 of the 2011 TransRockies that perfectly illustrates the camaraderie of the mountain biking community and the willingness of bikers ready and willing to help out fellow riders.
On one particularly gnarly descent known as “Dem Bones” in the Fernie Provincial Park area and about the halfway point of the day I began hearing a very disconcerting grinding coming from my rear wheel. At the bottom it seemed to be worked out and I chalked it up to the banging my bike received from the rooty downhill.
About a third of the way up the next climb my rear hub completely locked up leaving me and my partner staring at the problem of riding the next 20km with only one working bike.
I began to walk with a very quiet and concerned partner slowly riding behind me. I thought of my brother (the White Whale) one year ago who ran nearly half of stage 3 with his partner’s bike which experienced the same problem and began to run myself. I quickly realized I am not freakishly fit like my brother, nor is my partner (who at no point offered to run my bike anywhere, not even off a cliff). All I could think of was, “Get to the next aid station, then we’ll figure it out.”
My partner was thinking, “We’re fu$#ed.”
After some lube and cursing the hub began to turn freely but the pedals and the rear wheel were no longer talking to each other. It did allow me to ride downhill though. After about a 5km walk/run and a 2km downhill section my partner and I ran our bikes across a creek crossing when we saw our wives and supporters cheering us on right before reaching aid station #2.
Their cheers quickly stopped when they heard me shout “I need a new back wheel! My hub’s blown!”
Unbeknownst to me, taking refreshing dip in the creek at that same moment were pro Kona team riders Barry Wicks and Chris Sneddon, and the rest of the Kona support team. As I ran up to the road I had a surreal moment where Kona mechanics were asking a barrage of questions:
What size of wheel? 9 speed or 10? Quick release?
A few short answers from me and next thing I knew by bike was upside down and I was instructed to jump into the back of the truck and grab a wheel. No less than 5 minutes later I was riding on a Stan’s ZTR Arch wheel with XTR hub and Maxxis Crossmark tire. Yes, I was riding on Barry Wicks’ wheel. Not just the same type of wheel, his actual wheel!
We finished stage 3 and when I caught up with the Kona team the next day they told me to keep the wheel until I could get mine fixed.
Only in the TransRockies can you randomly shout into the woods you need a wheel and it actually shows up and only in mountain biking would it be delivered by two of the sports' top riders.

24h of Adrenalin
Congratulations to the 24hour teams.
Potlicker 1 (Craig, Mark, Bas, Pete andStefan) knocked out 17laps with the single-speed duo of Craig and Bas hitting some 1:08 lap times
Potlicker 2 (Watson + co.) knocked out 10 beers a piece!
Mike Lynch hit 11 laps solo (thats over 180km) and looking good for the 40+ categories next year.

Rundle's Revenge
(a 50km option for the sane, 25km for the ladies or for the truly sick add on a 12.5-50km trail run the next day and be an 'iron donkey'!)
Its a 'trimmed' 24h adrenaline loop so great practise for that.

XT drivetrain and service
Great deals on chain reaction for shimano at the moment. Seems most think XT hits the 'value' sweet spot between price, weight and durability.
XT crank, cassette and XTR chain for ~C$288. Free delivery. Over 40% off. May get lucky and no GST either.
Add in some brake pads (>40% off on most makes for 4+) and your bike will ride as good as new!
Also, Rick's Bikes will fit all this for free as part of a service as a deal for the potlickers - and he collects and delivers (rather than trying to hit Bow's opening hours).

He's usually good for a 3day turn-around - book in advance for your big event(s)!

Back in the saddle
Well boys it's been a long time. After the TransRockies the blog effort was neglected, just like my bike and my physical fitness.
But it's time to get back in the saddle.
Fuelled by winter beer and wine and as the memories of cramping, bleeding and all out suffering faded, we Potlickers seemed to gain some unjustified confidence as we have enrolled in a record number of races.
To date we have Potlicker representation in:

To date we have Potlicker representation in:
The Salty Dog
BC Bike Race
Test of Mettle
24 Hours of Adrenaline
TransRockies X
In each one, save for the BC Bike Race, we have multiple teams enroll
ed. It's safe to say that 2011 will be the year of the Potlicker. We will be making some noise at races all over Alberta and BC!
There are big changes in the team too. The northern chapter is pretty much dissolved as Jay and Watson both moved to Calgary to get serious about riding. Potlicker 1 has a different look with Shane and Kurt joining forces for the Transrockies (not sure I agree with a non drinker and a light weight drinker holding the P1 title). Potlicker 2 remains the same and the Jay/Mundt duo is stronger, faster and more determined than ever and ready to build on the beat down they handed to Potlicker 1 on day six of the TR. Potlicker 3 has been added and the team of Trevor and Eddie has already been out on the road and I heard Eddie has already rode up the Money Maker twice. Potlicker 4 is made up of Furlong and Bas and are our sole BC Bike Race representatives.
In addition, the LD band has been playing under a different and non-Potlicker approved name (we'll have to do something about that). Miyagi has been skiing about 100 times, Trevor's been eyeing up a better camera to film spin class videos (a Sufferfest review is coming), and while many of us are dreaming about shaving a few ounces off by upgrading our drive trains or even buying a new bike, Starnino one upped all of us by getting a new hip...titanium. Lighter and stronger than regular bones so what we've always suspected is now true, Paul's not fully human and should be faster than ever this summer.
So it's time boys. Get spinning, running, and in the gym. Salty Dog is coming soon!
